Arch of Trajan (Arco di Traiano) The marble Arch of Trajan was erected in the 2nd century AD in honour of the emperor, and was designed to be a landmark easily visible from the sea and land. It sits on top of the ancient harbour wall, measuring approximately 28 m (92 ft) tall. An Latin inscription dedicates the arch to Trajan, who has 'given ships safer access to Italy with the construction of this port at his own expense.' Address: Lungomare Luigi Vanvitelli Ancona AN Italy
